UK car insurance firm looks into multi-car households

A UK car insurance company has discovered that families who own more than one car are less likely to have a road traffic accident than those who own just one.

In the research, which was carried out by Admiral, multi-car households appeared to do much more to look after their cheap car insurance premiums, recording 22% fewer accidents than single-car households.

A spokesperson for the UK car insurance provider explained: "Multiple car owners.drive higher value vehicles with their cars worth an average 27% more than single car households. Having spent more on their car, perhaps they drive more cautiously in order to protect their pride and joy.

"Multiple car drivers could also have more driving experience because they have access to a number of different cars."

However, Admiral also pointed out that multi-car households are less likely to leave any of their cars parked on the street, where they are at higher risk of being hit by another vehicle or vandalised.

The motor insurance company offers a special MultiCar policy which can be used to cover up to five vehicles in a household, with each driver earning a separate no claims discount.
