Seatbelt law could mean cheap car insurance quotes

Motorists in New Hampshire, USA, could be seeing some cheap car insurance quotes in years to come after a mandatory seatbelt law was passed.

When the bill went through the courts, it was the safety implications of wearing a seatbelt that were impressed upon the lawmakers.

However, with one of the lowest seatbelt compliance rates in the country at 63.5%, it is the public that now need to be convinced to belt up.

One thing that might persuade people to put their seatbelts on is the fact that the motor insurance industry has revealed doing so could lead to cheap car insurance quotes.

Whilst motorists might not see an immediate impact of belting up on their car insurance, a high level of compliance could see the cost of motor insurance fall over time. This is because it is likely that the number and cost of injury claims that arise out of car accidents would fall thanks to the improved protection provided by seatbelts.

According to research by Seat Belts for All, New Hampshire would see 14 fewer deaths and 335 fewer serious injuries if it became mandatory to wear a seatbelt, which would save in the region of $75 million in related costs.
