Irish man fined for BMW insurance offence
BMW car insurance - or rather the lack of it - was at the centre of a court case involving an Irish man who was arrested by police for driving while uninsured.
The man was charged with the motoring offence in November last year when he was stopped by officers of the law while driving in Tempo, County Fermanagh.
In the recent court case about the incident, a district judge heard that the Irish man subsequently produced an insurance policy to police but it was not in his name.
The man purchased new insurance later that day but could not avoid being prosecuted for driving without insurance.
He admitted the charge and apologised to the court. The judge decided not to disqualify him after recognising the man had no previous record and had submitted an early plea.
The Irish man was fined £250 and his licence was endorsed with six penalty points. As a result of the BMW car insurance conviction, it is likely cheap car cover would be difficult for him to find in future.
