‘Dangerous' veteran loses cheap car insurance option

An 86-year-old war veteran from Bolton will be unable to get cheap car insurance, after he was found guilty of dangerous driving, because he drove the wrong way along a dual carriageway for six miles.

The former RAF truck driver was given a one-year driving ban and told he would have to take an extended test before getting behind the wheel again. He was also given a year's conditional discharge and told to pay £35 costs by Llandudno magistrates.

He told the court he was on his way to a caravan holiday in Rhyl when he got lost and was mis-directed onto the A55 main road but, luckily, no car accidents resulted from his actions.

The widower, who was also an experienced delivery driver, is not likely to request another car insurance quote because he has sold his Vauxhall Cavalier and intends to restrict his driving to a motorised scooter, which has a top speed of 8mph, and does not even require cheap car insurance.
