More and more people getting online car insurance quotes
A shopping survey has found that online car insurance is rising in popularity but consumers are being put off by poorly-designed quote engines.
The Foolproof 2006 Online Shopping Survey found that at present, 32% buy online car insurance. However, it also revealed that two thirds of motor insurance customers are planning to buy online car insurance rather than getting quotes over the phone when their renewal is due.
Many of the consumers (66%) who are already using the internet for their motor insurance quotes are using price comparison sites that offer motor insurance quotes from a whole range of car insurance providers. However, some consumers do search specifically for established car insurance companies, such as Direct Line and Norwich Union.
However, researchers believe that the growth of shopping for motor insurance on the net is being restricted by unsatisfactory levels of usability on many websites.
According to the findings of the survey, 23% of potential customers will end up clicking away from an online car insurance quote because they have become frustrated with it. The most popular gripe mentioned by these consumers was that they could not find their career listed in the options given by the motor insurance quote.
Despite these issues, the survey predicts further growth in the online car insurance market and that by 2016, 82% of motorists will be buying their motor insurance over the net.
