High Wycombe motorists relieved to see proposed speed limit rise for hill
There may at last be good news for High Wycombe motorists who have been turning to cheap online car insurance deals in desperation after encountering a cunningly-placed speed camera on Marlow Hill.
It has been announced that the area may be increased from a 30 to a 40 mph zone, although it is not known whether the notorious camera will stay put.
The camera, which is placed on a steep hill, has caught out many drivers who are accelerating up the slope in order to maintain their speed.
One such motorist was Mr Race, a 70-year-old man who was flashed twice in one day by the controversial camera.
After paying a £120 fine and getting six penalty points on his driving licence, he found that he had to search around for a cheap online car insurance quote as his original motor insurance firm were going to charge him a lot more for his premium. Despite his search, he still saw a significant increase in the cost of his car insurance.
Mr Race commented: "I am an old man and I am made to look like a flipping speed machine."
It is not just Mr Race who has been snapped by the camera. Fraser Wilson, 20, had only just passed his driving test when he was caught exceeding the speed limit on the hill, resulting in a £200 increase to his motor insurance premium.
He said: "I think it's great they want to put it up to 40 mph, although I genuinely thought it was 40 already. I know half way up there is a sign saying 40 mph. I just got confused."
