Motor insurance quotes threatened by inappropriate wet weather driving, NU warns
Norwich Union is warning motorists to beware of wet weather if they want to protect their cheap motor insurance quotes.
The UK car insurance company has revealed that accidents that occur on wet days are 27% more costly than dry day crashes.
It is believed that this is because drivers fail to modify their driving styles appropriately when it rains, which leads to many motorists going too fast for the road conditions.
A spokesman for Norwich Union said: "The wettest days result in a 40 per cent increase in accidents.
"When it has rained a lot we are seeing that drivers only slow down by 3 to 4 per cent when it is raining and they are not increasing their stopping distance."
Corrine Aldous, spokesperson for cheap car insurance company duck2water Car Insurance Services, commented: "Motorists need to recognise that road conditions can make a huge difference to the performance of their cars.
"Many drivers could avoid losing access to cheap motor insurance quotes just by taking a few more precautions in poor weather."
