Drivers called Gabriel and Natasha most likely to crash, online car insurance company finds
According to recent research, motorists named Gabriel and Natasha reach for their car insurance documents the most often.
The link between a driver's name and their likelihood of crashing was studied by online car insurance firm esure, who looked at all 23,000 claims that had been made in the last five years.
Researchers found that there were startling differences between the crash rates of people with certain names.
It was found that men named Gabriel came a cropper most often, having more than a one in five (22%) chance of being involved in an accident. Their female equivalent is Natasha, who crash with similar frequency.
Apparently, the safest drivers on the road are called Ellis and Isabella, who have a 6% and 8% chance respectively of making a motor insurance claim.
However, it is really bad news for those named Morgan. The name Morgan appeared in the top five list for both men and women, making it one of the most dangerous names to have.
The online car insurance company was asked whether customers' names would be taken into consideration in light of these recent findings. However, esure representative Mike Pickard was quick to say that other factors, such as age, were much more important in determining the risk of a crash and these were what esure's online car insurance quotes were based on.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) did not rule out other motor insurance companies choosing to take names into consideration, though.
An ABI spokesman commented: "If a company finds everyone named John, for instance, is more likely to claim, it may take that into account when calculating premiums."
