Online car insurance company to sponsor ITV weather

An online car insurance provider is to take the place of Powergen as sponsor of ITV weather broadcasts.

Esure, which specialises in cheap car insurance for safer drivers, will be seen on TV screens across the country from January 2008, when its sponsorship commences.

The deal was arranged by Carat Sponsorship, whose group communication director commented: "The growth of comparison sites is presenting consumers with more and more choice. Brand strength will be key to future success, and we believe this sponsorship to be an ideal platform upon which to develop Esure's brands."

He went on to describe the online car insurance company's sponsorship of the weather bulletins on ITV as a "major coup", explaining that it would offer creative flexibility.

A spokesperson for Esure added: "Broadcast sponsorship is working really well for our insurance portfolio which is why we decided that it would be a key advertising platform next year."

The motor insurance firm has a lot to live up to, as Powergen has sponsored the weather forecasts on ITV for the past 18 years.
