Online car insurance company highlights driver dishonesty
An online car insurance company has found a staggering amount of dishonesty amongst motorists when given a hypothetical car theft situation.
Moneysupermarket.com found that only one in five drivers would be entirely truthful with their
motor insurance firm if their car had been stolen when it was unlocked. 2.5 million other motorists, on the other hand, would try to omit some details when reporting the circumstances of the theft.
A spokesperson for the online car insurance firm said: "People may not see the omission of certain facts as fraud, but if these facts helped lead to the claim then that's exactly what it is.
"We would urge all drivers to tell the full truth. Insurance fraud is a criminal offence and the overall consequences could be far more costly than the sums they are trying to salvage by being economical with the truth.
"Insurers are often seen as the bad guys, but in such circumstances, they will assess the full details of the claim and are generally pretty reasonable when it comes to paying out," he finished.
