Online car insurance is the way forward

New research from comScore has revealed that online car insurance is increasing its market sector. The 2008 report is based on extensive data obtained from motor insurance consumers in 2007 and a study of internet users during the 3rd week of March 2008.

The survey confirms the Internet is becoming more popular as a method for buying car insurance. Of those motorists questioned, fifteen percent said they had purchased their policy online; a three point rise on previous data.

Traditional motor insurance agents saw a decline in customers using their services; with a decrease of three percent to fifty three percent of the market.

Buying car insurance from a traditional agent still, obviously, remains the primary way of fulfilling insurance requirements, but the research does show an upturn in the usage of different methods.

Especially interesting were the figures relating to motor insurance advertising. The survey asked consumers what they would do to find out more about car insurance after seeing an advertisement, with seventy five percent revealing that they would visit a company's internet site.
A comScore spokesman said, "It's clear that the Internet channel is integral to the process of purchasing auto insurance - even for consumers who tend to rely more heavily on their agents."
Even traditional agent customers would rely on the internet for information regarding insurance, with thirty percent of those who had purchased from an agent saying that they would buy online car insurance in the future.
