Lancashire drivers risking cheap car insurance premiums
Even getting online car insurance quotes may not mean cheap premiums for Lancashire drivers, as recent statistics show high accident rates for the area.
The Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety (LPRS) has revealed increases in both minor and serious car accident rates in 2005, despite sustained use of speed cameras over the last five years.
These statistics have prompted debate as to how this worrying trend is best dealt with.
The LPRS supports the use of speed cameras and has announced that there will be two more added to Lancashire roads every year in the fight against speeding-related road accidents.
Gordon Entwistle of Burnley Council commented: "[Speed cameras] reduce speed and reduce accidents. I think it's a positive move. People drive too fast."
However, not all are so confident of the strategy. An MP for the Ribble Valley, Nigel Evans, said: "The speed camera policy has been proven not to work. Other traffic calming measures need to be looked at."
Corrine Aldous, spokesperson for online car insurance company duck2water Car Insurance Services, commented: "Lancashire drivers should slow down and be careful, especially around accident blackspots such as the A682, otherwise they could end up paying a lot more for their motor insurance."
