Study shows 1 in 3 choose online car insurance

Research by Webcredible has shown that just one in three people buy online car insurance, with the rest preferring the human contact that comes with speaking over the phone.

The web usability company looked at how people did their research when searching for the cheapest car insurance quote, and what they did when they found it.

Online car insurance companies will be happy to hear that 68% of motorists decided to search for motor insurance quotes over the net, but may be somewhat dismayed by the fact that just a third went ahead and bought their policy via the web.

Instead, the research shows that the majority of people (64%) purchase their preferred car insurance policy over the phone.

A spokesperson for Webcredible said: "The results of the survey show that people want to speak to a human being. If people are not 100% sure about what they are doing, they will want to phone someone to get some advice.

He went on: "Having the phone number clearly displayed on the website makes a world of difference. It acts as a lifeline - it allows users to confirm that the choices they are making are the right ones."
