More US drivers buy online car insurance in 2006
According to research by comScore Financial Solutions, the number of American drivers who bought online car insurance significantly increased in 2006 - a trend which looks to be continuing.
The study found that 58% more motor insurance policies were bought over the net in 2006 than the previous year, whilst the total number of online car insurance quotes also went up by 15%.
A spokesperson for comScore Financial Solutions said: "Consumers continue to migrate toward conducting complex financial transactions online.
"The automobile insurers are supporting this shift with more efficient websites and clearer communication of the value proposition for purchasing policies online."
There is continued good news for the online car insurance industry, with January and February 2007 seeing a 45% increase in policies bought over the net compared to the same time period the year before.
The research also looked at why some people were not getting web-based car insurance quotes. The most common reason given was that they would like to talk about their policy with an insurance professional, although internet security was also a concern for a large number of people.
