Online car insurance quote site says eco policies getting cheaper

"Green" car insurance is becoming more affordable, an online car insurance price comparison site has said.

Moneysupermarket.com, which offers visitors a range of cheap car insurance quotes, has revealed that the cost of going green with your motor insurance has come down.

Research by the online car insurance firm has shown that CIS eco-insurance, which includes an offset for 20% of a car's emissions, is one of the cheapest options out there for motorists.

An example CIS car insurance quote for a 35-year-old female owner of a Toyota Prius came out at a very reasonable £307.85, whilst a quote from competitor ibuyeco.co.uk was priced at £431.64. However, the latter policy does offer 100% carbon offsetting.

A spokesperson for moneysupermarket.com said: "Many drivers are concerned about their impact on the environment and in an effort to "go green" have been tempted to opt for eco-friendly insurance.

"In March [2007], I called on insurers to make green premiums more competitive or else concerned motorists could simply shop around for the cheapest deal that met their needs and give some of the money they saved to eco-friendly causes.

"Our research shows CIS has taken this on board with very competitive premiums now. It would be tremendous if ibuyeco and More Than followed suit."
