Online car insurance comparison service offers quote advice

Research based on the usage of an online car insurance price tool has shown that many motorists are choosing costly third party insurance rather than cheap comprehensive deals.

When Insurancewide.com analysed the online car insurance quotes that were presented to customers of its price comparison service, it found that some people could be paying more for third party cover than comprehensive policies.

Its statistics showed that motorists aged 35 or over and who drive cars with a value of less than £2,500 could pay between £500 and £700 for third party insurance, but just £400 to £500 for comprehensive cover.

A spokesperson for Insurancewide.com said: "The type of cover you choose can have a significant impact on the cost of your motor insurance and of your overall driving costs. Doing your homework could save you hundreds of pounds.

"Our research shows that people who perhaps don't use their cars much of who lock them up safely are still opting for third party fire and theft cover when in fact they could pay less and be more protected with a fully comprehensive policy."

He went on: "For motorists with several claims and convictions, it can prove just as worthwhile to buy a fully comprehensive policy and benefit from the extra cover it provides because their driving history and profile is such that a third party policy will cost them an arm and a leg anyway."
