Online car insurance certificates welcomed

GoCompare.com, an online car insurance comparison site, has welcomed the news that UK motor insurance certificates can now be sent to customers via the net.

The road safety minister recently gave the go ahead on the issue to the motor insurance industry, leading some to claim that motorists may even be able to enjoy cheaper car insurance quotes as a result.

A spokesperson for GoCompare.com commented: "Few people will shed a tear over 'the death of the cover note'. Anyone who has bought a new car only to sit and wait for their insurance to turn up will testify that it is very much the Weakest Link in the whole process."

The online car insurance company's representative went on to point out that with the rest of the process of buying motor insurance available over the net, the lack of an available e-certificate has been unsatisfactory.

He also said: "Online insurance certificates could also have a positive impact on the environment, With over 33 million motor vehicles licensed in the UK, this could take millions of policy packs out of the postal systems and off the road as well as reducing the amount of paper and packaging required."

The Association of British Insurers also spoke of its pleasure at the announcement about online car insurance certificates, saying: "The insurance industry in the future will be able to provide quicker, more convenient and more reliable delivery of these important documents to their customers."
