Online car insurance site reveals cheap quote research

An online car insurance comparison site is warning motorists that specialist motor insurance deals are not always the best.

Moneysupermarket.com, one of the companies which has encouraged UK drivers to compare car insurance quotes, is advising motorists to consider all insurers rather than be drawn to those aimed at certain demographics.

This was one of the findings which came out of the comparison service's research into cheap car insurance deals.

It found that a 60-year-old man would have to pay 33% more to be covered by a specialist provider of older driver insurance than online car insurance site swiftcover.com which has no such age focus.

Similarly, women's car insurance providers failed to shine when compared to some of the generic cheap car insurance companies in the market. Moneysupermarket.com found that ladies' car insurance specialist Diamond gave a motor insurance quote that was 90% more expensive than swiftcover.com's.

A spokesperson for swiftcover.com explained: "Specialist insurers such as Sheilas' Wheels, Ladybird and Diamond promote themselves heavily to women as the value alternative, catering specifically for their needs.

"But our research shows it clearly pays to shop around for premiums across the whole of the market. While these insurers may sometimes come up trumps for women, chances are they will be beaten on premiums by the bigger, better known brands."
