Online car insurance site comments on AA/SAGA merger

A company which offers an online car insurance switching service has been commenting on the planned merger between AA and SAGA.

The two companies, which both offer cheap car insurance to UK motorists, revealed that they would be merging in late June 2007.

A spokesperson for uSwitch.com said: "The forthcoming merger of the AA and SAGA will give the group a combined customer base of 17 million, of which two million will be car insurance customers. This will make the new group a dominant and influential player within the industry, especially in the over-50's car insurance market."

"With more than 20 million people over the age of 50 in the UK, it would be very disappointing if the car insurance products currently offered by SAGA were in any way scaled down or diluted as a result of this merger," the online car insurance firm's spokesperson continued

He also went on to point out that this merger, together with the launch of rival firms in the over 50's motor insurance market, might mean that there are more cheap car insurance premiums for older drivers despite their higher risk.
