TyreSafe offers advice to protect car insurance quotes

Motorists could be risking their cheap car insurance quotes by driving on over-inflated tyres, warns TyreSafe.

The organisation, which is highlighting the issue as part of tyre safety month, is advising drivers that it is as dangerous to drive on tyres which are over-filled with air as it is on those which do not contain enough air.

TyreSafe warns that motorists who drive on over-inflated tyres risk skidding (and an expensive motor insurance claim) because less of the tyre is in contact with the road surface. However, this isn't just about safety; over-inflated tyres also mean that drivers have to put up with a less smooth ride and may well have to replace the tyre sooner because of overly-worn areas.

A spokesperson for duck2water Car Insurance Services commented: "Motorists would be well advised to check their tyre pressures regularly, if only to ensure that their cheap car insurance quotes are well protected from preventable accidents.

"If you aren't sure of the correct tyre pressure for your car, check in the manual or with the manufacturer."
