Graveyard parking puts BMW car insurance at risk

The owners of a BMW may have to check whether their BMW car insurance covers ghost and ghoul attacks after parking in a Wimbledon graveyard. The graveyard has temporarily been converted to a car park after the church decided to cash in on the crowds of cars that head to the tournament every year.

Photos of the BMWparked in between headstones hit the pages of the Metro after the church opened up the graveyard to Wimbledon-goers for £20 a space. St. Mary's Church in Wimbledon is the prime location for tennis goer's parking as it overlooks the whole of the All England Club complex.

Some people have found the graveyard's change of function offensive with comments such as "distasteful" and "upsetting" made. However the church rector, Reverend Mary Bide defended her decision arguing that vehicles were only allowed to park in the oldest part of the graveyard which contained remains from 18th and 19th centuries whose descendents could not be traced and all proceeds would be going to charity.

With all the headstones and tombs to navigate round, parking in a church graveyard is likely to be more hazardous than a normal car park although there has been no mention of the BMW owner having to claim on his BMW car insurance.
