Motorists affected by insurance and petrol price rises
The increasing costs of petrol and car insurance have forced many people to cut down the amount of journeys that they make in their vehicles, according to the RAC.
The breakdown specialists revealed that almost half of the UK's motorists have been setting out on fewer car trips, in an attempt to reduce their outgoings.
However, the vast majority of countryside drivers claimed that they would find it extremely hard to make less use of their vehicles. Many rural home-owners have no option but to drive to shopping centres and places of work.
A spokesperson for the RAC said, "People's ability to live their lives and do the most basic of tasks, such as visit family and take their children to after-school activities, is being threatened - and it looks like it's only going to get worse."
It is thought that fewer cheap car insurance claims will be made if the decrease in car use continues. However, it seems unlikely that the price of policies will go down any time soon.
When it comes to fuel expenses the RAC representative stated, "UK drivers want action from the Government … At the very least, we are calling for fuel duty to be frozen and scheduled inflationary rises to be scrapped."
Drivers who are particularly eager to save money have been advised to drive more economically and conduct online searches for affordable car insurance upon renewal.
