Soap actor contrite over drink-driving charge
Ex-Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne has been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The British actor has been banned from driving for a year, which will be reduced to nine months if he completes an awareness course. He may also face a rise in his car insurance costs when he returns to the road.
Police stopped his Ford Fiesta as he left a Llandudno nightclub on December 30th last year. He is reported to have been surprised to discover that he was over the limit, believing that his alcohol intake had been low enough and spread out over the evening sufficiently for his motor skills not to have suffered.
His solicitor stated that Gascoyne, who played Peter Barlow in the soap, had been entirely co-operative with police throughout the process.
He made a remorseful statement and said: "I made a stupid mistake and I would never do it again. I'd never drive after even half a pint now."
This is likely to please his car insurance company, but will probably fail to improve his chances of a cheap motor insurance quote.
