Poor eyesight could be putting up car insurance quotes
Specsavers has found that drivers could be risking their health and their cheap car insurance quotes by not getting their eyes tested.
The company teamed up with DrivingServices UK to carry out research into the number of people who were driving despite having poor eyesight.
The study revealed that eyesight problems could be behind thousands of crashes. 6% said that their eyesight had caused a near miss or an accident, whilst 8% admitted that they could not see to drive at night.
This could be having a very real effect on price of motor insurance, and certainly does impact future car insurance quotes for many of those who are involved in crashes as a result of their eyesight.
Whilst poor vision is a problem for private motorists, it also has huge implications for people who drive for a living and the companies they work for.
However, it appears to be a problem that is hardly recognised by employers, with 90% of drivers interviewed by Specsavers and DrivingServices UK reporting that their boss had not insisted that they take an eye test.
A spokesperson for Commercial Motor said: "Good vision is such an important safety consideration for all drivers that no employer who expects staff to drive in a professional capacity can afford to neglect regular eye tests."
