More and more people choosing online car insurance

The results from a shopping survey show that more people than ever are buying online car insurance and home insurance policies.

The research, officially called the 2006 Online Shopping Survey, was carried out by Foolproof, a company which describes itself as "a user experience consultancy."

It found that 50% of UK drivers get online car insurance quotes and actually purchase their policies over the web, whilst browsing on the net is the preferred method of 28% of home insurance customers.

Foolproof estimates that about a fifth more of us will be buying online car insurance next year, meaning that online purchases account for 66% of all motor insurance policies sold.

Whilst the rise in online car insurance sales is excellent for both consumers and those involved in the industry, this trend has also cited as the reason for substantial UK call centre job losses.
