Recession keeps car insurance premiums down
Traffic congestion is down for the first time in thirty years according to a report from the Department of Transport. The number of fatal accidents is also down meaning that fewer people are having accidents on the road and having to claim on their car insurance.
The economic downtown and the rise in fuel prices is believed to be responsible for the fall in traffic volume as people are staying in more and when they do have to go out, they are seeking alternative, cheaper means of transport.
For every ten miles driven, motorists have more than half a minute less of jams or delay to endure. On a long journey this adds up to a considerable amount of time saved. With less people on the roads, the number of car accidents has also decreased which is helping to ensure car owners are able to retain their no claims bonus and find the cheapest car insurance quote when renewing.
An AA/Populus survey of more than 11,000 drivers shows 57% of motorists have made a conscious decision to drive less in order to save money on expensive fuel bills. With a reduction in annual mileage, motorists may find that their car insurance premiums could decrease.
