Usability report released on online car insurance sites

Research by Webcredible has shown that online car insurance companies may be putting off potential customers by making it too hard to get quotes.

The study considered a number of usability issues and found that many sites made the online car insurance quote process too ambiguous, whilst other websites failed to give simple directions for customers to follow.

In the "Driving Online Sales for Motor Insurance" report, Webcredible rated twenty motor insurance companies for their sites' level of usability and found that half were so poor that they barely managed to get 50 out of 100.

The online car insurance company that ranked best for its site was Quinn Direct http://www.quinn-direct.com, with the AA http://www.theaa.com and Hastings Direct http://www.hastingsdirect.com coming joint second.

Notable motor insurers which were ranked poorly were Endsleigh and The Post Office, which scored just 43% for usability. The only one to get an even lower ranking than this was swiftcover.com, an online car insurance provider which does not have call centres.
