Rising car insurance rates compounded by road pricing
Rising car insurance rates, some of the highest vehicle taxes in the world, and all-time-high fuel prices are the continuing saga of financial woe for UK motorists.
They may also have to face the prospect of a national road-pricing scheme, seeing the introduction of motorway tolls and a charge for using the busiest roads at peak time.
The Telegraph is reporting that eight areas in the UK will be used for trials of the system that are due to commence in 2010.
The controversial scheme was pioneered by Tony Blair, but his successor, Gordon Brown, was believed to have shelved the idea. However, plans have now been reopened and are expected to be a prominent feature of the next general election.
Trials are reported to be scheduled in Leeds, North Yorkshire, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, south west London, Suffolk and Essex, according to the Telegraph.
A duck2water spokesperson said, "These schemes will undoubtedly prove unpopular with UK drivers and this is why online car insurance companies such as duck2water know that offering competitive car insurance rates is of prime importance."
