Cheap car insurance company announces lower rates for sat nav owners

Drivers who keep sat nav systems in their car are always being warned that the devices could be the end of their cheap car insurance as they are such a popular target with thieves.

However, one motor insurance company has taken the opposite stance. The RAC has announced that people with sat nav systems will be rewarded with cheap car insurance thanks to statistics which show these motorists have a lower crash risk.

When asked for the reason behind this trend, a spokesman for the RAC explained that: "[A sat nav system] means you don't have to constantly look at road names, warning signs and so on."

As well as providing navigation information, new sat nav systems also offer details of accident blackspots and speed camera locations, as well as reminding drivers to drive safely for the road conditions.

Despite the RAC's move, owners of sat nav devices are still being advised to protect their cheap car insurance by keeping their possessions out of sight of thieves.

This is the topic of a nationwide police campaign, in which it is recommended that motorists take their sat nav out the car, remove and hide the suction pad, and clean any marks from the pad off the windscreen.
