Website shows fall in cost of online car insurance quotes

An online car insurance comparison site has released figures which show a fall in the cost of motor insurance in Q2 of 2007 - contradicting the AA Index, which revealed that our premiums are costing more than ever.

Insurancewide.com carried out an analysis of its online car insurance quotes, which include those provided by brokers and direct insurers, show a fall of 4.2% for the second quarter of 2007. Its research shows that the average motor insurance quote for April 2007 was £738, but three months later this had fallen to £703.

However, the AA's figures, which are drawn from a panel that does not include direct insurers, suggest a rise of 2.5% over the same period.

A spokesperson for Insurancewide.com said: "Our motor insurance comparison service has access to all types of rates from almost the entire UK insurance market, all of which we draw from when we guide our customers to the most relevant insurer for their needs.

"The falling premiums reflect the competitive pressure insurers are under to retain and attract ever-savvier customers. Our hope is that by continuing to include as many insurers and brokers as possible in our comparison service, we can provide a quote for every type of driver, particularly those drivers who other comparison services can't help because they don't have enough market coverage."
