Careful drivers may have fewer verbal altercations

Drivers who exceed the national speed limit not only face the potential invalidation of their car insurance but the prospect of heated discussions with their passengers, according to a major UK retailer.

The high profile company, which counts relatively cheap car insurance among its range of products, reported that more than one fifth of in-car arguments arise when drivers choose to speed.

Heated discussions reportedly also occur when motorists are given the wrong directions or drive in an overly aggressive fashion.

A motoring expert said, "Most couples will have argued about something in the car at one time or another. Given the potentially serious consequences of speeding, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that it is the chief cause of fights."

The UK's motorists may be shocked to hear that bickering children are relatively unlikely to cause disputes between couples. Passengers also find slow driving and poor parking to be fairly minor annoyances.

Drivers who are particularly prone to having arguments are reminded that stress is often a cause of erratic motoring behaviour. These motorists can reduce the risk of accidents and car insurance claims by taking a short break from driving to calm themselves when they feel their concentration waning.
