Linford Christie crashed his luxury car
Linford Christie has become the latest in a long line of motorists to have appeared in court on a charge of wrong way driving, an offence which cheap car insurance companies take very seriously.
The former Olympic gold medal winner pleaded not guilty, despite the various eye witness accounts placing him at the scene in Buckinghamshire.
Apparently the ex-sprinter was seen getting out of his Audi A8, which had been severely damaged in a head-on crash with a taxi carrying a newly married couple. It is also claimed that the sportsman then began rolling around on the ground and shouted, "Oh my God, it's all my fault."
If found guilty then Mr Christie's reputation and chances of obtaining the cheapest car insurance are likely to lower substantially.
The chief prosecutor showed little sympathy for the athlete and stated, "He drove for some 185 metres and, the prosecution say, he drove on the wrong side of the road.
"He was driving on the opposing carriageway and a car was driving the other way and there was a head-on collision."
In related news, a man from West Yorkshire recently appeared in York Magistrates Court on charges of dangerous driving, driving without cheap car insurance, and theft of a motor vehicle. He was apparently arrested after causing a similar accident to the one Linford Christie was involved in, when he drove head on into two other vehicles along the A64.
