Whopping rise in shopping for cheap online car insurance

Millions more people are now shopping around for online car insurance deals - a huge 37 per cent hike in growth in 2007 has been recorded by researchers.

In 2006, 1.57 million policies were bought via e-commerce, but that surged to 2.15 million last year, reports comScore.

And recognising the benefits of looking for online car cover deals, about 32 million people applied for quotes in 2007, compared to 28 million the year before.

People value the ease and relative simplicity of finding and purchasing value for money or cheap car insurance quotes online that provide appropriate cover.

For insurance companies, the Internet forms part of cost-effective business execution that helps customers buy insurance they need by the method they prefer.

A spokesperson for Duck2water Car Insurance Services said: "Customers are voting with their computers, often showing they prefer to explore cheap online car insurance quotes rather than any hard sell tactics used by call centres."
