Volkswagen triumphs at 2007 Towcar Awards

Volkswagen has been honoured with a first place in the 2007 Towcar Awards.

The Volkswagen Passat triumphed over 50 other finalists to take the title of "Towcar of the Year" 2007, thanks to its 4 wheel drive capabilities, button handbrake and high-performing suspension which combine to make it an excellent vehicle for towing.

The £22,000 Volkswagen estate was put through a number of rigorous towing tests, including a slippy 1-in-6 slope, and had all manner of types of luggage fitted into it to check its practical features as well as its towing performance.

A spokesperson for Practical Caravan said: "Choosing the right towcar is a tricky business. These awards are designed to remove that uncertainty by putting all the leading models through Britain's most comprehensive towcar test programme.

"An excellent car doesn't automatically make a great towcar but you can be confident that the winners of the Towcar Awards are brilliant all-rounders that offer value, practicality and economy as well as superb towing ability."

However, the Volkswagen Passat wasn't the only VW to get a special mention at the awards, with a 1.9 diesel Volkswagen Golf also coming top of its group.
