Summer months drink driving poses cheap car insurance quote risk

Figures from the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) suggest that many more motorists are risking their lives and their cheap car insurance quotes by drink driving in the summer months than at Christmas.

The research has shown that almost double the number of motorists stopped in a recent summer police crackdown were over the limit (8%) compared to those tested at Christmas time (4%).

The statistics were drawn from a Europe-wide operation, which found that the UK had the third highest rate of drink driving. Only Germany and Slovenia had a greater percentage of motorists over the limit.

A spokesperson for TISPOL said: "Thousands of people die on the roads each year as a result of drink-driving and hundreds of thousands are injured.this is needless suffering."

It is feared that the high number of motorists caught drink driving in the UK will have an effect on car insurance quotes for everyone, not just the motor insurance premiums of those caught committing the offence.
