'Safe' Swindon may enjoy cheapest UK cover
Victims of car theft are the least likely to come from Swindon, according to an insurance study, meaning the town could be a contender for some of the cheapest car insurance rates in the UK.
Swindon topped the league table of safest towns and cities with Norwich and Solihull featuring in second and third places.
Frequency of car insurance claims was measured across the country and the research pinpointed cities and towns that were least and most likely to suffer from vehicle thefts.
Swindon police was pleased that actions by the force and community safety workers to tackle motoring crime in the town was apparently being successful.
"Considerable effort has been invested in reducing crime and bringing that minority of offenders who are responsible for the majority of vehicle thefts to justice," said a police spokesman.
While there is no evidence to show that Swindon enjoys some of the cheapest car insurance quotes and rates in the UK, the study by Endsleigh Insurance indicates prices could be better in the town than other places across the country.
