ABI to look into cheap car insurance for elderly drivers
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has announced that it is to set up a unit to help older drivers get cheap car insurance deals.
Following research which revealed limited motor insurance choices for older drivers, the ABI is going to launch a taskforce to look into the matter.
The taskforce will be made up of representatives from a number of notable bodies, including the British Insurance Brokers Association, Age Concern, Citizens Advice and Help the Aged. Keith Morris of Sabre Insurance, a company specialising in cheap car insurance for older motorists, will be chairing the team.
A spokesperson for the ABI explained that although many older drivers get insurance cover without difficulty, around one in five does experience some problems doing so.
He said: "Insurers are meeting the rising demand for insurance from older customers and it is now widely available.
"But more can still be done. The task force will be consulting widely to develop a system so that older customers can easily shop around for the cover they need."
