No cheap quote for teenager
The difficulties faced by younger drivers in achieving an affordable car insurance quote have been highlighted by the BBC this week, which carried an article concerning the struggles of an 18-year-old new driver in finding a cheap quote.
The Leeds teenager tried shopping around for a car insurance quote, using comparison websites, individual car insurance companies and brokers, but found that the cheapest quote he could obtain for his 1.0 litre Vauxhall was £5,700.
The young man's father explains, "I wouldn't have given him the expectation of getting a small car and bought him the lessons if I'd known.
"I've tried every which way. I've looked at the comparison sites and also at companies not on those sites, and I've tried various insurance brokers.
"I knew there's lots of variability and I have shopped around to reduce the premium."
However, a spokesperson from the Head of Corporate Affairs at the British Insurance Brokers Association said that he believes it is possible that the young driver will be able to find a cheaper car insurance quote if he continues to shop around.
