Drivers encouraged to thoroughly check used cars
Drivers with low mileage car insurance are best advised to carry out a thorough background check before buying a second hand motor, according to leading industry experts.
The pitfalls of buying second hand cars were highlighted on a Top Gear show, when the presenters bought three old BMW 325i convertibles. Although the vehicles appeared very similar, each had their own chequered history.
Richard Hammond initially thought that his vehicle had completed fewer road miles than those of his Top Gear co-presenters. However, it became increasingly obvious that somebody had clocked his car.
Later in the show Jeremy Clarkson and James May were amused while they watched a reformed car thief steal Mr Hammond's vehicle during a security test. The diminutive driver would have realised the importance of BMW car insurance if such an event had happened in real life.
Nicola Johnson, Consumer Services Manager at car-checking service HPI, said, "whilst most used car buyers will not expect to purchase a used car at new car showroom standard, a seemingly perfect vehicle with a hidden history can still come at a heavy price.
"The HPI Check offers consumers the best protection from buying a banger like the Top Gear team did."
Anybody who has already spent their hard earned cash on an ageing vehicle is encouraged to look through the excellent deals available on low mileage car insurance.
