Range Rover found thanks to tracker car insurance
Tracker car insurance proved its worth to the owner of a Range Rover, which was stolen in Nottinghamshire, because police were able to find the vehicle a few hours after it was taken by organised criminals and fitted with false number plates.
One of the gang deliberately rammed five police cars while behind the wheel of the Range Rover, which tried to stop him during a 110mph chase on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire, causing £33,000-worth of damage to them.
The judge in the case described the driving as appalling and said it could have caused a serious accident. The man was jailed for 28 months at Leicester Crown Court. He had admitted handling the stolen Range Rover, dangerous driving and driving without car insurance.
The court was told the 21-year-old driver had played no part in the theft but would have been paid £100 to deliver it.
The tracker device had enabled the car to be detected near junction 27 of the M1 and the chase in and out of other traffic continued to Lutterworth. The incident is likely to have an adverse affect on the owner's next car insurance quote.
