Tweets keep motorists moving
Drivers will soon be tweeted to warn them of delays on Scotland's busiest motorway. Helping to cut extra congestion and journey times, this could also help keep your car insurance quote lower as fewer cars on the roads also means fewer accidents.
The £4.4m upgrade to the M8 between junction 5 and junction 6 is due to begin on the 14th August. By keeping drivers informed on micro-blogging site Twitter, Transport Scotland is hoping to avoid lengthy delays by encouraging drivers to seek alternative routes.
Trunk road operator for Bear Scotland, Eddie Ross, said, "With so many vehicles a day using this route it is important that we keep road users aware of the forthcoming upgrade works"
Other sites such as Traffic Scotland will be giving 24/7 journey planning advice across the whole network to ensure motorists don't get caught in traffic jams.
Twitter is fast becoming a popular tool for keeping the world updated and not just about a celebrity's latest shenanigans. Updates can be received on all the latest news and current affairs as well as the whereabouts of the Prime Minister and the President of the United States.
Hopefully with regular tweets, motorists can avoid major delays and any disruption to their journeys. This should also help safeguard cheap car insurance quotes as drivers can steer clear of traffic hotspots.
