UK car insurance company reveals 'bump-and-run' plague

A UK car insurance company has revealed that as many as one in ten Brits have driven off after a crash with a parked car without leaving any details.

Direct Line, one of the leading providers of cheap car insurance quotes, found that around half of motorists involved in a "bump-and-run" felt some guilt at their actions, but 20% felt absolutely no shame.

Many of the drivers who admitted driving off after a low-speed collision said that they had not stopped because the damage to the other car was not very serious.

The motor insurance firm found that the most common consequences of bump-and-run incidents were damage to the paintwork, bumpers and wing-mirrors of the parked car, and also that supermarket car parks were the most common locations for these incidents to occur.

A spokesperson for Direct Line said: "Bumping another car can happen so easily and, while it may be tempting to drive off, it's worth remembering that it is a crime to do so.

"To be on the receiving end of a bump-and-run can be upsetting, especially if it means you have to claim on your insurance for damage you didn't cause," the UK car insurance provider's representative finished.
