UK car insurance customers misleading insurers
A UK car insurance comparison site has revealed that millions of motorists could be misleading their motor insurers by failing to disclose their motoring convictions.
Confused.com, which compares motor insurance quotes to help customers find the cheapest car insurance, found that one in four UK drivers would "forget" to mention convictions if it meant getting a better deal.
However, the UK car insurance comparison service also found that the vast majority of people - 96% - recognise that giving inaccurate details can jeopardise the validity of their motor insurance policy.
A spokesperson for Confused.com said: "Insurers take a dim view of people who don't update them immediately should their circumstances change. If you move address, receive points for a driving conviction or have an accident, even if that is only a minor knock of ding, you need to notify your insurer immediately.
"In the worst case scenario you could land yourself in hot water with the police and get a record for fraud, making it difficult and considerably more expensive to get cover in the future," she warned.
The UK car insurance company's spokesperson also advised motorists to let their insurers know even if they have what seem like minor amendments to make to their policy, such as a change in job title or annual mileage.
