Car insurance for the uninsured
Some 17000 motorists in one region of the UK need to apply for car insurance quotes after research revealed they are driving around while uninsured.
In the county of Norfolk, shocking figures show about three per cent of almost 600,000 drivers are using the road yet have failed to pay for insurance.
In one part of the region around north Norwich this figure stands at a staggering nine per cent with about 1450 motorists breaking the law among a motoring population of around 16500.
In Cambridgeshire, the figure stands higher at about 19400 which is 3.7 per cent of road users. However, across the UK the uninsured figure is even worse, averaging about five per cent.
Insurance for car drivers is a major police issue. However, officers believe they are not losing the war against uninsured motorists with high numbers of drivers being caught, thanks to a tough approach that utilises new technology to catch offenders.
The Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) indicated the police crackdown was working with a 13 per cent drop in uninsured claims over the last three years.
With fines and costs associated with uninsured driving said to total more than £300, as well as incurring six penalty points on licences, the better option for drivers is to not be caught by shopping around and signing up for cheap car insurance quotes.
