Cheap car cover hurt by uninsured drivers

Every insured driver is shelling out £30 per car insurance policy for some 350,000 UK motorists who drive without cover, research has shown.

Duck2water Car Insurance Services urged uninsured motorists to arrange cover soonest, warning they were putting lives in danger.

"It is an issue. We would prefer not to increase the price of policies for people who are putting their own and other's lives at risk," said a spokesperson.

Duck2water specialise in quoting for cheap car insurance, especially Ford, BMW, Vauxhall, VW Peugeot, Renault, Toyota and Audi.

Uninsured drivers face being banned and fines of many thousands of pounds.

Almost 50 per cent of those who failed to drive with no insurance said they "overlooked" renewing cover. Some 11 per cent jumped into a car for emergency reasons.

More than ten per cent found insurance premiums were too high. And 1.3 people out of ten were deliberate in deciding not to get car insurance.
