Cheap car insurance firm warns of unrestrained load risk

A cheap car insurance company has issued a warning to motorists over the danger of unrestrained loads in their vehicles.

According to Norwich Union, drivers could be putting themselves and their motor insurance at risk by failing to secure their property properly in the back of their vehicle.

This is because everything from work-related tools and equipment to everyday items can potentially cause injury to occupants or damage to the vehicle in the event of sudden braking or an accident.

A spokesperson for the cheap car insurance company said: "We receive many insurance claims both for vehicle damage and personal injury as a result of collisions which have occurred at relatively low speed.

"Many include damage or injury which has been sustained by unsecured equipment in the load area bursting through the back seat and hitting the driver or passenger.

"If equipment is loaded correctly and prevented from moving, then the potential for injury and damage is significantly reduced. Smaller items are best contained inside a storage box which should also be secured in the boot/load area with straps," the Norwich Union spokesperson advised.
