Very cheap car insurance not easy to find in Northern Ireland
Many motorists in England, Scotland and Wales who are finding it a struggle to receive very cheap car insurance should be thankful that they are not charged the rates of those in Northern Ireland.
The Northern Consumer Council thinks the costs for motorists have become so high that it is launching an investigation into car insurance prices.
Young men are the one group in particular who seem to have been targeted by particularly high costs. More and more of them are finding the price of insurance too prohibitive and are unable to keep their vehicles on the roads.
Having expensive car insurance for male drivers, in particular young ones of between 17 to 25 years of age, is nothing new but the premiums have apparently risen by 64% for 17 to 22 year olds in the past year, according to the Northern Ireland Consumer Council.
This is the reason why the council is insisting that the Northern Ireland Assembly investigates.
By comparison, young female drivers pay around £1,500-£2,000 while young men are forced to pay closer to £3,000.
Also, in Northern Ireland the council has determined that on average motoring costs are £300 more expensive than in the rest of the UK, making it very difficult to pay for cover if they cannot find very cheap car insurance.
