Unusual vehicle covered by UK car insurance

A Blackpool man has surely got one of the most unusual vehicles covered by a UK car insurance policy: a car made almost entirely from wood.

The ex-cabinet-maker has spent two years carefully crafting the car into something which can be legally driven on British roads at speeds of up to 40mph - as long as the owner dares.

It has recently passed its MOT and he was pleased to find a UK car insurance company which met his specialist needs. However, he didn't reveal the size of the motor insurance premium.

He commented: "Most people really like the car. When I go out, people want to touch it all the time. Complete strangers are coming up and stroking, it is just like a piece of furniture.

"I have made hovercrafts and boats before but that has always been from plans. This is the first time I've done something completely off my own back."

However, after all the hard work that he has put into it, he is now looking to sell the vehicle onto another wooden car enthusiast so that he can fund his next project; a wooden truck.

He said: "If I can sell the car for a reasonable amount, I want to continue building. I have become quite addicted to it and I'm at a bit of a loose end now."
