Your car insurance may be affected by your parents
We are all aware that risky drivers adversely affect car insurance rates, but what some of those thrill seekers probably don't realise is that they may well be influencing a generation of young drivers.
The findings of a French survey, published in the scientific journal Risk Analysis, have highlighted that boys, in particular, pick up a style of driving from their fathers that includes the taking of certain risks.
Earlier studies in the US have already shown a correlation between parent's educational styles and behaviour of children behind the steering wheel.
Some key findings from this new research reveal that:
- sons are predominantly influenced by their father's driving practices, whilst daughters are affected by both parents
- young men see women drivers as "over cautious and hesitant"
- young people whose parents respect highway codes, tend to have more respect for road regulations themselves
A duck2water car insurance spokesperson said, "These are very interesting findings. If more adults become a positive influence on the next generation of drivers they may well be able to force down motor insurance quotes for all UK drivers."
