Young drivers car insurance could rise due to clutter

According to research carried out by the AA, one in 20 vehicles in the UK, including those owned by motorists with young drivers car insurance, have a blind spot due to clutter placed in the car as decoration.

The survey involved 2000 road users, but if the AA's one in 20 result with was scaled up to reflect the whole of the country that would apparently mean 1.5 million motorists have a hazardous blind spot in their car.

A spokesperson for the company stated of their findings, "The most bizarre and dangerous item was a silver CD which in the morning sunlight had the extra danger of dazzling other drivers with the reflection."

"There appears to be an urban myth that dangling a CD will somehow avert speed camera detection. It doesn't.

"Other odd items included small pots, shamrock, a leprechaun, a camera, ceramic animals, furry dice, boxing gloves, a Margaret Thatcher doll, a turquoise peace sign charm and a miniature horse."

Although both experienced and new drivers may want to personalise their vehicle, they are being warned against doing so as it could be dangerous and any accidents may well affect the possibility to get cheap car insurance in the future.

Clutter can obscure their view of the road and cause an accident, which may result in an increase in the price of their young drivers car insurance, as well as potentially severely harming them and others.
